Volunteering is a rewarding experience

Volunteers are critical to our mission.

We organize more than 9,000 volunteer hours annually.

Caring volunteers provide nutritious meals with homeless guests. They provide a listening ear and a loving heart when they take the time to sit and talk with guests. Networking with members of the community is a big advantage for our homeless families. They garner strength and encouragement and often secure new opportunities for employment through the vast network of volunteers who support the mission. Volunteers also sleep overnight at each host location. Volunteering as a sleeper is one of the easiest ways to “serve others” as you sleep! “Office angels” volunteer for answering phones or helping with mailings. Our volunteers also assist with fundraising events.

Do you want to experience the rewarding feeling that our volunteers get knowing they have significantly impacted a family’s future?  Tell us how you can help below.

I am interested in the following activities:
Fellowship – I can listen, share a book or a movie, play board games, etc. from 7 to 9pmI can sleep over at a host location. 9pm – 6amI can offer some time as an office angel answering phones, etc.I can offer some expertise on a committee (Property, Public Relations, Host Site Recruiting, Fundraising)I am interested in serving on the board for Family Promise

We are thrilled to share a message from Family Promise Founder, Karen Olson:

"As you know, I was in Kessler Rehabilitation Institute in West Orange, NJ, for 12 weeks. I am now continuing my rehabilitation on an outpatient basis. I am pleased with the progress I made while I was at Kessler and look forward to continued progress going forward. I’ve been very touched by all the prayers and communications from people across the country.

Last week I volunteered at a local Family Promise host congregation. I was so very touched by the many families that came up to me with hugs and thanking me for starting Family Promise. They shared their own stories and appreciation of support by the volunteers and staff. One woman came up to me and broke down in tears — she said felt that she had reached rock bottom and was ready to give her 5 children to her ex-husband when she came into Family Promise. She was overwhelmed by the love and support she received — she described the volunteers as earth angels. Her expression of love was very healing to me.

I am so pleased to hear of all the great work going on across the country. And I look forward to seeing everyone in 2020 at our conference in Las Vegas.”
